Every depiction of the moon is a representation. Through a drawing, a movie or a photograph, we indirectly experience what is visualized. But representation is strongly related to manipulation. How to determine what the moon looks like, when you haven’t been there? Surveyor 7 is one of the spaceships of the NASA that landed on the moon. The spaceship was equipped with a camera that recorded the surface of the moon. Based on coördinates, the fragmentary pictures were composed into a collage that gives an impression of the lunar landscape. Inspired by this image, we created a personal interpretation of the lunar scape. An experimental study of materials, colors, textures and gravity on square units of 12 by 12 centimeters resulted in our own fragmentary map of the moon. In cooperation with Renee Baatsen.
